May Meeting Report:

Bringing to completion a full season of events, twenty-three AGO members and friends met at St. John’s East UCC for our annual May dinner and Installation Service. Thanks to Mark Hatfield for hosting the event and to Shelley Heil for arranging the meal. After a delicious chicken and pork meal catered by Jill Carter from “Silver Spoons,” the business meeting followed. The we entered the Sanctuary for an inspiring service of installation presided by our Chaplain, Dan Wilkinson.

POE Advanced

Robert Nicholls and Doug Reed presented plans to have an Advanced Pipe Organ Encounter.  It is for advanced organ students who are in High School.

Evansville AGO in conjunction with the UE AGO Chapter will host the only one in the country June 21-June 29, 2009. The students will be housed at the University of Evansville. About 20 organs will be available for the students to use for practice. The students will receive lessons every day. Presentations, lectures, lecture-recitals, and recitals in the evening will be part of the POE. The Advanced POE has a more focused curriculum than a POE. We will have an organ builder in residence, Michael Rathke. He will build a small practice organ with all parts visible that will be available for the students. The students will build a pipe and will aid with the tuning and voicing of this instrument.

Volunteers will be needed to house organ teachers for the week, to help chaperone, and to aid with transportation as well as other areas of need.

Robert Nicholls will visit the Advanced POE that is being held in Lincoln, Nebraska this year.

It is anticipated that the budget will be between $20,000 and $30,000. The National AGO will give $5,000 in seed money. The Schmidt Foundation has donated $1,000. It is expected that the local chapter will vote to make the $18,000 available from the Convention 97 fund. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
